LED downlight installation & replacement in Canberra: Downlights that disappear into the ceiling, and just work.

Planning to replace downlights in a room or across your home? We help you choose the right fittings and positions for the space, with glare, colour and dimming considered before installation.

What we check

Two downlights can look identical and behave completely differently.

The face of the fitting is only the visible part. These are the details that decide whether the finished job feels good and keeps working.

  • FittingsExisting hole size, ceiling condition and access determine whether the replacement will fit cleanly.
  • PositionsWe plan around where light is needed, not a generic grid or a fixed number per square metre.
  • GlareA recessed, well controlled light is easier on the eyes than a bright disc at the ceiling.
  • ColourColour temperature sets the mood. Colour rendering affects how timber, paint, food and skin actually look.
  • DimmingThe fitting and the control need to be compatible for stable, quiet and smooth dimming.
  • InsulationWe confirm the fitting classification and follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the ceiling conditions.

The job behind the quote

“Downlight replacement” can mean three very different things.

A few photos help us work out which of these you need before you spend money.

  1. 01

One or two lights keep failing

Best fit: fault check and targeted repair

Flicker, buzzing, dropouts and poor dimming can come from the fitting, driver, connection or dimmer. The LED itself is not always the cause.

  2. 02

The house has old or mixed fittings

Best fit: like for like, or upgrade the whole area

We check cutout sizes, output, colour and switching so the replacement set looks consistent and works together.

  3. 03

The room has never felt right

Best fit: layout and lighting review

More downlights are not always the answer. Placement, beam angle, glare control and separate switching can do more than quantity.

Questions

The downlight questions homeowners ask most.

Still have a question?

Call Kieran direct on 0415 343 050
Do all of my downlights need to be replaced?

Not necessarily. If a fitting, driver or dimmer can be repaired or matched cleanly, we will recommend the smaller job. Broader replacement makes more sense when fittings are ageing together, mismatched, obsolete or repeatedly failing.

Can you add new downlights or change the layout?

Yes. We plan new positions around how the room is used, not a generic grid, and check the ceiling, insulation and switching before anything is installed. New holes, new wiring or ceiling repairs are scoped and priced before work starts.

Some of my downlights look warmer than others. Can you fix that?

Yes. Mixed colour temperatures are common when fittings are replaced one at a time. We check cutout sizes, output, colour and switching so the replacement set looks consistent and works together.

Can you quote from photos?

Photos, an approximate quantity and a description are often enough for an initial recommendation. We will tell you if a site visit or further inspection is needed before a final quote.

What should I photograph?

The whole room with the lights on, a close photo of the current downlight, the switch or dimmer controlling it, and any flickering, failed or mismatched lights. Please don’t remove fittings to look behind them. We’ll check that on site.

Can you install downlights I have already bought?

Yes, where the fittings are compliant, suitable for the location and compatible with the existing controls. We can also supply fittings we know and support as part of the job.

What if my existing cutouts are an unusual size?

We check the cutout before choosing a fitting. Depending on the size and the ceiling, the cleanest answer may be a suitable replacement, an adaptor made for the job or a planned ceiling repair. An oversized trim ring shouldn’t be a last minute fix.

Are IC-4 downlights always the right choice?

IC-4 fittings are designed so suitable insulation can abut and cover the fitting when installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. We still check the ceiling, insulation, location and product instructions before specifying or installing a fitting.

How long does a replacement take?

A straightforward like for like replacement across the whole home can often be done in one day. New layouts, access issues, ceiling repairs or circuit changes may take longer and will be scoped before work starts.

Will the electrical work be tested and certified?

Yes. LED Solutions holds ACT Electrical Licence 2009974 and is fully insured. Electrical wiring work is tested and the relevant Certificate of Electrical Safety is provided for the work completed.
