After dark

Choose what you want to see, not just how bright you want it.

Good outdoor lighting can improve the facade, garden, paths, entertaining areas and security without flooding the whole property with light.

Why not just put in a brighter floodlight?

One big floodlight can make a backyard brighter; it can also make it look worse, with glare and harsh shadows. Layered lighting lets you choose what you want to see.

Do outdoor lights need to be different from indoor ones?

Yes. Outdoor fittings need a weatherproof IP rating suited to their exposure, whether that’s under an eave or fully exposed to rain. We select the right rating for each fitting’s actual position.

Will the light spill into the neighbours’ place?

It shouldn’t. We position fittings so the light falls where you actually want it, not into your neighbour’s window.

Can outdoor lighting help with security?

It can. Movement sensors, timers and automation can be part of the plan, so entries and paths are lit when they’re needed.

Can the lights come on and off by themselves?

Timers and sensors can run outdoor lighting when you want it, without anyone remembering to switch it on or off.
