Spacing, not just quantity
Poor spacing creates glare and dark patches. We plan layout around the room's real use, not a generic grid.
Halogen replacements, failed LED repairs, and new downlight layouts for kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms and hallways — planned first, installed clean.
Poor spacing creates glare and dark patches. We plan layout around the room's real use, not a generic grid.
Warm, neutral or cool changes how timber, paint and skin tones read. We match colour to the room, not a default.
Cheap drivers flicker, hum and fail early — especially on dimmers. We match fittings to your switching.
The right IC rating for your ceiling type avoids fire risk and lets insulation sit safely over the fitting.
We check existing cut-outs before quoting, so there's no oversized trim ring covering a patch job.
If your existing layout just needs new fittings — not a full re-plan — we'll tell you before quoting the bigger job.
It depends on room size, ceiling height, wall colour and what the room is used for — not a fixed number per square metre. We work this out on site or from your plans before quoting.
Usually yes — we check cut-out size and colour temperature so new fittings blend with what's already installed.
Both — we can supply quality fittings as part of the job, or install fittings you've already purchased.
A straightforward like-for-like replacement across a home is usually a single day. Larger layout changes or new circuits take longer — we'll scope this in your quote.
Only downlights rated IC (Insulation Contact) or IC-F (Insulation Contact — Fire rated) are safe to have ceiling insulation placed directly over and around them. A non-IC-rated fitting needs clear air space kept around it, or the heat build-up becomes a fire risk. If your ceiling already has insulation and you're not sure what's fitted, we check the rating on site before recommending or installing anything.
In Australia, hardwired downlights must be replaced by a licensed electrician — it's illegal to do this yourself, and any work needs a Certificate of Compliance for Electrical Work to keep your home insurance valid. If your fitting is a genuine plug-and-play unit, the globe or unit itself can sometimes be swapped safely — if you're unsure which you have, we're happy to check.
Yes, with the right IP (ingress protection) rating for the zone. Downlights near a shower or bath need to be rated IP65 and positioned correctly relative to the water source. We handle this as standard on every bathroom job — it's one of the checks a lot of cheaper installs skip.
A good quality LED downlight typically lasts 25,000–50,000 hours — often 15–20 years of normal home use. Cheap fittings with weak drivers commonly fail well before that, which is the main reason we're selective about what we install.
